Turkey Suffers Losses, Prepares Complaint Against Russia to the WTO
Turkey is preparing a complaint to the World Trade Organization (WTO) because of Russian introduced restrictive measures. According to the Minister of economy of Turkey Mustafa Elitash, the collection of evidence is currently taking place.
“We, via the international courts, will restore the rights of all victims… trade must have a moral basis,” said the Minister.
As a result of measures introduced by Russia, Turkish businesses have suffered significant losses in the food and tourism sectors. To minimize losses, Ankara is trying to redirect its exports to Kenya, Nigeria and other African countries, reports RIA Novosti.
Russian-Turkish relations deteriorated after the destruction by the Turkish air force of the Su-24 of the Russian Federation. No apology or compensation to Moscow from Ankara has been received. The President of Russia Vladimir Putin called the incident a “stab in the back” and a hostile act, and then imposed sanctions against Turkey, promising that Ankara will not get off lightly.
