The European Commission paid 320 million to a company run by the husband of Von Der Leyen
A scandal at the heart of the European Union about which the media spoke very little.
The case has sparked a strong outcry in Italy where it has been widely reported by the media in recent days. Indeed, the case in question is linked to a possible conflict of interest in which Von Der Leyen, President of the European Commission, is directly involved. At least that's what our sources tell us.
Indeed, according to the Italian media, ElCorriereDelVeneto.it , the gene therapy center of the University of Padua, Italy, has received funding of 320 million euros from the European Union for the development of RNA Messenger technology. So far, so good. But there is a problem. And the problem is that Von Der Leyen's husband, Heiko Von Der Leyen, is a member of the supervisory board of the center, which suggests that there is indeed a conflict of interest.
According to the same source, it was the researcher Rosario Rizzuto, professor and former rector who revealed the information. “The public and private institutions participating in this project have chosen their representatives on the Board of Directors of the foundation (center) and the Orgenesis laboratory (directed by Heiko Von Der Leyen, editor’s note) has proposed Heiko Von Der Leyen to us”, has he declared.
And Rizzuto adds: “he (Heiko Von Der Leyen) has been appointed to the Supervisory Board which regularly checks the conduct and work of the Board of Directors, responsible for the management of the research center and the operational decisions that I directed".
In Italy, the information was relayed by other reliable sources. Revealed a week ago, the case sparked a lively controversy on social networks where there were many reactions.
