India will host the G20 summit in Jammu and Kashmir in 2023 and will assume the G20 presidency on December 1, 2022.

The G20 Summit, which will bring together the largest economies in the world, will take place in India’s Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (UT) in 2023.

To plan and coordinate the major international summit, a high-level committee of five members was formed on Thursday.

According to an official order released on Thursday, the chairman of the committee will be the Union Territory’s housing and urban development department’s principal secretary, who will be joined by the Commissioner Secretary (Transport), Administrative Secretary (Tourism), Administrative Secretary (Hospitality and Protocol), and Administrative Secretary (Hospitality and Protocol) (Culture).

According to Manoj Kumar Dwivedi, principal secretary of the general administration department, “Sanction is hereby accorded to the constitution of a committee…for overall coordination of G-20 meetings to be held in the Union Territory of J&K.”

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, India will begin holding the G20 presidency on December 1, 2022, and the G20 leaders’ summit will be held in India for the first time in 2023.

With its members accounting for more than 80% of global GDP, 75% of global trade, and 60% of the world’s population, the G20 brings together 19 of the most powerful economies in the world as well as the European Union.

India’s Prime Minister Modi has been in charge of the country’s representation at G20 summits since 2014; India has participated in the it since its inception in 1999.

India is now a member of the G20 Troika (preceding, current, and incoming G20 Presidencies), according to the MEA, a position it will occupy from December 1, 2021, through November 30, 2024.

The G20 summit in 2023 will be the first major international conference to take place in Jammu and Kashmir following the withdrawal of the former state’s special status, which had formerly been guaranteed by Article 370 of the Indian Constitution. In August 2019, India divided the region into two Union Territories under federal administration.
