Irish MMA superstart Conor McGregor has been suspended for six months by the Nevada State Athletic Commission (NSAC) and fined $50,000 for his role in the post-fight brawl with Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229.

According to the NSAC decision, McGregor will be eligible to return to the UFC octagon on April 6. His opponent Khabib Nurmagomedov has been suspended for 9 months and fined $500,000, ten times the sum of McGregor's penalty.

The mass brawl between the two happened following their UFC lightweight championship fight on October 6, at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The fight itself saw Nurmagomedov submit McGregor in the forth round via neck crank. Right after his victory, the Russian lept over the cage to attack the Irishman's teammate Dillon Danis, who according to Nurmagomedov was verbally abusive towards him during the fight.

McGregor tried to follow the Russian, but was stopped by UFC staff, and then delivered a punch to Khabib’s teammate and cousin Abubakar Nurmagomedov, following which two other Khabib team members (Zubaira Tukhugov and Esedullah Emiragaev) entered the cage and attacked the Irishman one after the other. According to the NSAC Chairman Anthony Marnell III, McGregor was defending himself during the brawl, although it has been stressed that that he himself has engaged with his opponent’s team. The Russian's cornermen Abubakar Nurmagomedov and Zubaira Tukhugov both have been banned for one year and fined $25,000.
