Relations between Iran and the US have been tense for decades, due to Washington's critical stance toward Iranian nuclear deal and Iran's missile program.

Iranian Supreme Leader Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei has called on Muslim countries to unite against the US and their common enemies.

"The Iranian nation has successfully resisted bullying attempts by America and other arrogant powers and we will continue to resist… All Muslim nations should stand united against America and other enemies," Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said.

The day before, US Assistant Secretary of State for International Security and Non-Proliferation Christopher Ford said that the US did not intend to renegotiate the Iranian nuclear deal but was seeking a supplemental agreement.

However, later in the day, French President Emmanuel Macron said, Trump would rip up the JCPOA, despite strong suggestions from world leaders to keep the deal and, if necessary, build on it.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly criticized the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), which was negotiated by the Barack Obama's administration, calling it the worst deal of all time and stated he would withdraw the US from the agreement if it was not amended.

The JCPOA with Iran was signed on July 14, 2015 by the P5+1 group — China, Germany, France, Russia, Great Britain and the United States. This agreement stipulated a gradual lifting of anti-Iran sanctions and in exchange Tehran pledged not to develop or acquire nuclear weapons, maintaining a peaceful nature of its nuclear program.
