The discovery was made by Spanish archaeologists on Sunday in Luxor, in southern Egypt.

The mummy was discovered a little over 400 miles south of Cairo, on the west bank of the Nile, in a tomb dating from between 1075-664 BCE.

The antiquities ministry said the wooden coffin, decorated in bright colors, had been buried near a temple from the time of Thutmose III, an 18th-dynasty pharaoh referred to by some as "The Napoleon of Far Antiquity," and likely belonged to a royal servant named Amenrenef.

Myriam Seco Alvarez, head of the archaeological team, said the sarcophagus was "many colorful decorations recalling religious symbols from ancient Egypt, such as the goddesses Isis and Nephtys displaying their wings, and the four sons of Horus," according to the Times of Israel.

Luxor is an important city for Egyptian tourism, as it features many pyramids and other ancient artifacts. The process of mummification in Egypt goes back at least to 4500 BCE, according to available evidence.
