CDC Admits It Gave False Information About COVID-19 Vaccine Surveillance

In January 2021, the CDC declared that it would do a special kind of data mining study on VAERS reports known as Proportional Reporting Ratio. Now, the CDC is admitting to giving false information about COVID-19 vaccine surveillance.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in the United States are conceding that they misled the public regarding COVID-19 vaccine surveillance, such as by falsely claiming to have performed a specific sort of analysis more than a year earlier than they actually had.

The erroneous information was provided in responses to Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requests for the surveillance’s findings and came after the CDC stated that the COVID-19 vaccinations were being subject to “the most intense safety monitoring efforts in U.S. history.”

“CDC has revisited several FOIA requests and as a result of its review CDC is issuing corrections for the following information,” a CDC spokeswoman said.

None of the incorrect responses were given to bypass FOIA reporting obligations, the spokeswoman added, and no CDC staff knowingly gave false information.

Heart Inflammation

The Epoch Times requested all reports from a team that was assembled to research post-vaccination heart inflammation by evaluating reports submitted to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS), a system operated by the CDC and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, via a FOIA request, or a request for non-public information, to the CDC in July.

The CDC stated that “an association between myocarditis and mRNA COVID-19 vaccination was not known at that time,” in addition to the fact that the group did not undertake any abstracts or reports through October 2021.

That assertion was untrue.

The Pfizer and Moderna COVID-19 vaccination clinical trials found no evidence of myocarditis or pericarditis, two kinds of heart inflammation. However, the U.S. military began to warn about post-vaccination heart inflammation in April 2021, and the CDC began to publicly acknowledge a connection in June 2021.

Although the CDC earlier clarified the error, it remained unclear whether its teams had ever examined VAERS files.

“In reference to myocarditis abstraction from VAERS reports—this process began in May 2021 and continues to this date,” the CDC spokeswoman said in an email.

The analysis’s findings have still not been made public by the CDC.

Data Mining

In January 2021, the CDC declared (read below) that it would do a special kind of data mining study on VAERS reports known as Proportional Reporting Ratio (PRR). A nonprofit organization called Children’s Health Defense requested the findings, but the CDC said that “no PRRs were conducted by the CDC” and that data mining “is outside of th[e] agency’s purview.”

When The Epoch Times questioned Dr. John Su, leader of the CDC’s VAERS team, he said in an email that the agency began conducting PRRs in February 2021, “and continues to do so to date.”

The CDC is now claiming that Su’s statement and the initial reaction were both inaccurate.

According to a CDC spokesman, the organization did not begin doing PRRs until March 25, 2022. On July 31, 2022, the agency stopped carrying them out.

Both Children’s Health Defense and The Epoch Times were “misinterpreted,” the representative claimed.

Children’s Health Defense requested the PRRs the CDC conducted between February 1, 2021, and September 30, 2021. The Epoch Times inquired as to whether the request’s response was accurate.

The CDC believed that “data mining” solely alluded to Empirical Bayesian (EB) data mining, a different kind of study that the Food and Drug Administration has committed to carrying out on VAERS data, according to the spokeswoman.

“The notion that the CDC did not realize we were asking about PRRs but only data mining in general is simply not credible, since our FOIA request specifically mentioned PRRs and their response also mentioned that they did not do PRRs. They did not say ‘data mining in general,’” Josh Guetzkow, a senior lecturer at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem who has been working with Children’s Health Defense, explained.

“There is also no credible reason why they waited until March 25, 2022, to calculate PRRs, unless it was in response to our initial FOIA filed in December 2021, which was rejected on March 25, 2022—shortly after they say they began their calculations. It means the CDC was not analyzing VAERS for early warning safety signals for well over a year after the vaccination campaign began—which still counts as a significant failure,” he added.

The PRR data have likewise not been made public by the CDC. “PRR results were generally consistent with EB data mining, revealing no additional unexpected safety signals. Given it is a more robust data mining technique, CDC will continue relying upon EB data mining at this time,” the agency spokeswoman said.

The FDA has acknowledged that it has engaged in EB data mining, but the organization will not divulge the findings.
