The Indian Police has charged Amazon executive directors for running an online marijuana smuggling racket. Investigation found that around a tonne of ganja worth over Rs. 1.10 crores was in distribution via online shopping platform Amazon over the past four months.

Amazon find themselves in hot water yet again as a new case has been registered by the Bhind police in Madhya Pradesh accusing the e-commerce giant for the online supply of Marijuana which resulted in a week long investigation and arrests of two accused.

The case against the tech giant has been registered under section 38 of the NDPS Act per multiple sources. Reports claim to have the executive directors of Amazon India to be booked by the authorities as well.

Twenty packets of the illegal drug was claimed to have been hidden mid transit by Amazon.

The tech giant is proving to be quite difficult to deal with and uncooperative with the authorities over the matter as stated by the state Home Minister Narottam Mishra.

“There are no guidelines for online businesses. We’ll make guidelines for MP. Amazon was called but they’re not cooperating. We will bring them. I appeal to Amazon’s MD-CEO to cooperate or else we’ll initiate action.”

As a result of this, the police force were compelled to issue a 20-point notice to Amazon.

Madhya Pradesh police had busted an online marijuana smuggling racket and arrested two suspects in Bhind district in relation to the case earlier.

A later investigation found that around a tonne of ganja worth over Rs. 1.10 crores was in distribution via online shopping platform Amazon over the past four months.

Amazon executives were demanded to explain on how their platform was exploited for the sales of banned substances by the Bhind district police superintendent, Manoj Kumar Singh.

The two accused – Suraj alias Kallu Pavaiya from Morar in Gwalior and Pintu alias Bijendra Singh Tomar from Bhind district had FIR’s filed against them on the 13th of November. A complaint lodged against both by Ashish Yadav eventually led to the FIR lodged under the 29 NDPS Act.

Last month, US Senator Elizabeth Warren called for breaking up Amazon Inc and Indian retailers demanded a government probe of the company after a Reuters investigation showed the e-commerce giant had copied products and rigged search results in India.

Internal documents has exposed how Amazon deployed a secret strategy to bypass Indian laws by frequently changing its corporate structure and killing small businesses by illegally favoring a handful of companies it had stakes in.

Currently, the company is facing one of the largest union pushes with more than six thousand employees in the Amazon Birmingham facility voting to form a union.
